How it works

How your HairScore is worked out

  1. Answer 8 questions

Each question covers one factor a doctor checks first: area affected, duration, scalp visibility, family history, shedding, hair thickness, treatments tried and impact on you.

  2. Points are added up

Every answer is worth 0, 4, 8 or 12 points. The total is converted to a score out of 100, where a higher score means healthier hair.

What your HairScore means

ScoreBandWhat it suggestsLikely next step
80 to 100Healthy hairLittle or no meaningful lossMonitor and protect, transplant not needed
60 to 79Early thinningEarly signs of lossEarly treatment such as medicines or Hair PRP
35 to 59Moderate hair lossClear loss that may be progressingAssessment for treatment or a transplant

The lower the score, the more strongly a hair transplant is recommended. Sudden shedding can have medical causes, so a doctor should review it before any decision.

The research

What does the evidence say about hair loss and transplants?

A 2024 StatPearls review on androgenetic alopecia, the most common cause of progressive hair loss, reports that about 50 percent of men are affected by age 50 and about 80 percent by age 70. In women, the review notes that incidence rises after menopause.

The same review explains that medical treatments need at least 4 to 6 months of consistent use before improvement appears, and that they are usually needed long term. It describes hair transplantation as effective and cosmetically satisfactory for selected patients, and says it requires an adequate volume of donor hair, typically more than 40 follicular units per square centimetre.

What this means for you: early loss often responds best to treatment that starts sooner, while a transplant makes most sense once loss is established and enough donor hair remains. This is why the HairScore asks about duration, thickness and what you have already tried, and why a doctor checks your donor area before recommending surgery.

Questions answered

HairScore quiz: frequently asked questions

What is the HairScore quiz?

The HairScore quiz is a free, eight question hair assessment from Abdullah Clinics in Karachi. It looks at where your hair is thinning, how long it has been happening, your family history, shedding, hair thickness, treatments tried and how much hair loss affects you. You receive a score out of 100 and a recommendation on whether a hair transplant is likely to be useful.

How does the score work?

Each answer carries points, and the total is converted to a score out of 100. A higher score means healthier hair with less need for a transplant. A lower score means more advanced hair loss, so a transplant is more likely to be recommended.

Is the HairScore quiz free?

Yes. The quiz and the basic result are free. The full report is also free and unlocks when you enter your WhatsApp number, so the clinic team can send guidance and follow up if you want an assessment.

Does a low score mean I need a hair transplant?

A low score means a transplant is worth discussing. It does not replace an examination. A doctor still needs to check your scalp, confirm the cause of your hair loss and assess your donor area, because a transplant needs enough healthy donor hair at the back and sides of the scalp.

How accurate is the quiz?

The quiz is a structured first step. It is based on the questions a doctor asks at the start of a hair consultation, and it cannot diagnose a condition. Your result is confirmed by a clinical assessment or by clear photos reviewed by the team.

Why do you ask for my number?

Your number unlocks the full report and lets the Abdullah Clinics team follow up about your result. Your basic score is shown before you enter anything. The number is used to contact you about your HairScore.

Can women take the HairScore quiz?

Yes. Hair thinning affects women as well as men, and the questions apply to both. Female pattern thinning often shows as a wider parting and overall thinning instead of a receding hairline, so a doctor review is useful for an exact plan.

What happens after I finish the quiz?

You see your score and a short recommendation straight away. After you enter your number you receive the full report with a breakdown of your answers and suggested next steps. You can then message the clinic on WhatsApp, send photos for a first opinion or book a consultation on Tariq Road.

How much does a hair transplant cost in Karachi?

The cost depends on how many grafts you need, the technique and the area being treated, so it is confirmed after assessment. Read the hair transplant in Karachi page or the FUE hair transplant guide, then message the clinic for a clear price.

When should I see a doctor instead of waiting?

See a doctor soon if hair falls out suddenly, you notice round bald patches, your scalp is itchy, painful or scaly, or shedding began after illness, stress, a new medicine or weight loss. These signs can point to a cause that is treatable without a transplant.
