Hair Specialist Doctor in Karachi

Hair fall, thinning, patches or a receding hairline each have a different cause. A hair specialist doctor finds the cause first, then treats it with medicines, procedures such as PRP, or a hair transplant when it truly suits you. Appointments are available at Tariq Road (PECHS) and DHA Phase 1 in Karachi.

Short answer

What does a hair specialist doctor in Karachi do?

Short answerA hair specialist is a registered doctor, usually a dermatologist, who works out why you are losing hair and treats the cause. Care can include medicines such as minoxidil, PRP and other in clinic treatments, and a hair transplant when your pattern, donor hair and goals fit. At Abdullah Clinics, the hair team is led by Dr. Bushra Paracha with Dr. Abdul Khaliq, and patients are seen at Tariq Road and DHA Phase 1.

Search for hair help in Karachi and you meet many titles: hair doctor, trichologist, hair transplant surgeon, skin specialist. In practice, a good hair specialist does four things. The doctor listens to your history, examines your scalp, confirms the type of hair loss and recommends the least invasive treatment that can work. Surgery is one tool among several and is chosen only when it suits the pattern of loss.

This page explains the conditions a hair specialist treats, what happens at a first visit, the treatment options and how to judge a clinic. For surgical detail, see our pages on hair transplant in Karachi, FUE, DHI and cost. For non surgical options, read non surgical hair loss treatment in Karachi.

Conditions

Which hair and scalp problems does a hair specialist treat?

Short answerA hair specialist treats pattern hair loss in men and women, sudden shedding after illness, stress or childbirth, patchy hair loss, scalp conditions such as dandruff and fungal infection, and scarring hair loss. Each needs a different treatment, so diagnosis comes first.

Pattern hair loss

Gradual thinning at the hairline, temples or crown in men, and diffuse thinning along the parting in women. This is the most common reason people seek a hair transplant.

Diffuse shedding

Heavy daily shedding that often follows fever, surgery, crash dieting, low iron, thyroid problems, stress or childbirth. Treating the trigger often lets hair recover.

Patchy hair loss

Round or oval bald patches may signal an autoimmune condition such as alopecia areata. Early review matters because treatment options depend on the type.

Scalp conditions

Dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, fungal infection and inflamed scalps can weaken hair and cause itching. These are treated at the scalp level.

Scarring hair loss

Some conditions destroy the follicle and leave smooth, shiny patches. These need prompt specialist care to protect remaining hair.

Beard and eyebrow thinning

Patchy beards and thin eyebrows are assessed too, and a transplant can be considered once the cause is clear and the area is stable.

First visit

What happens at a first hair consultation?

Short answerExpect a conversation about your history, a close scalp examination, tests only when they are useful, and a written plan with options, timelines and a review date. You are not pushed towards surgery at the first visit.
  1. History

The doctor asks when the loss started, how fast it is progressing, family history, recent illness, medicines, diet and any previous treatments.

  2. Scalp examination

The scalp and hair are examined for density, thinning pattern, scalp health and donor area quality. Photos are taken so progress can be compared later.

  3. Tests when relevant

Blood tests such as iron stores and thyroid function may be advised when the history points to a medical cause of shedding.

  4. Diagnosis and options

You hear the likely cause in plain language, then the choices: medicines, in clinic treatments such as PRP, or a transplant plan if you are a suitable candidate.

  5. Review

A review date is set, usually after several months, because hair cycles are slow. Photos are repeated at review to judge the response.

Treatment

Which hair loss treatments can a hair specialist offer?

Short answerOptions range from prescription medicines and PRP to FUE or DHI hair transplant. Medicines and PRP aim to slow loss and support existing hair. A transplant moves healthy follicles to thinning areas and gives a permanent result.
OptionWhat it doesWhat to know
Minoxidil and other medicinesMedicines applied to the scalp or taken by mouth to slow loss and support regrowth, chosen by the doctor for your type of hair loss. The American Academy of Dermatology says minoxidil can take 6 to 12 months to work and must be continued to keep the benefit.
PRP for hairPlatelet rich plasma from your own blood is injected into the scalp to support existing follicles.A 2024 meta analysis of 13 randomised trials found a gain of about 28 hairs per cm² over placebo, with low certainty of evidence. It is not permanent, and sessions are repeated.
Mesotherapy and exosomesScalp injections or topical products intended to nourish follicles.Evidence is still developing. Ask what is used, where it comes from and what the clinic can show you.
FUE and DHI hair transplantFollicles from the back of the scalp are moved to thinning areas.Suits stable pattern baldness with enough donor hair. Results are permanent but mature over 12 to 18 months.
FUT hair transplantA thin strip of scalp is removed and divided into grafts.Considered in selected cases, such as large sessions. It leaves a linear scar.

How to choose

How do you choose a hair specialist in Karachi?

Short answerChoose a registered doctor who examines you in person, names the surgeon who performs each step, explains non surgical options first, gives a written quote and does not promise a fixed number of grafts or guaranteed results.
  • Ask for the doctor’s name and registration. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery warns that a licensed physician must perform the surgical steps of a transplant.
  • Be careful with consultations that read like sales pitches, with pressure to book the same day.
  • Ask which options exist besides surgery for your stage of hair loss.
  • Ask for the plan, the number of sessions and the review date in writing.
  • Check that the clinic is registered with the Sindh Healthcare Commission. Reporting in Dawn in August 2026 noted that regulation of cosmetic clinics in Pakistan is still catching up with demand.

Our full checklist is in the guide how to choose a hair transplant clinic in Karachi.

Cost

How much does hair treatment cost in Karachi?

Short answerCost depends on the diagnosis and the plan. Medicines and PRP are priced per treatment or course, and a transplant is priced by the number of grafts and the technique. Your quote is given in writing after the consultation.

FAQ

Hair specialist in Karachi: frequently asked questions

Who is the best hair specialist doctor in Karachi?

Short answerNo single doctor is best for every patient. A good hair specialist is a registered doctor, ideally a dermatologist, who examines your scalp, explains the diagnosis in plain language, offers medical treatment before surgery where it suits you and tells you who performs each step of any procedure.

Should I see a dermatologist or a trichologist for hair loss?

Short answerA dermatologist is a medical doctor trained in diseases of the hair, scalp and skin, and can prescribe medicines and perform procedures. The word trichologist is used differently in different places, so ask about the medical registration behind the title before you book.

When should I see a hair specialist?

Short answerBook a visit if shedding is sudden or heavy, if you see round patches, if your scalp is painful, itchy or scaly, if your hairline or crown is thinning in your twenties or thirties, or if hair has not recovered months after an illness or childbirth. Early assessment gives you more options.

What happens at a first hair consultation?

Short answerThe doctor takes your history, examines the scalp and hair density, orders blood tests when they are relevant and explains the likely cause. You leave with a written plan that states the options, the expected timeline and the review date.

Do I need a hair transplant if I have hair fall?

Short answerMany people with hair fall do not need surgery. Shedding after illness or from low iron often settles once the cause is treated, and early pattern loss may respond to medicines. A transplant suits stable pattern baldness with enough healthy donor hair, and the result is permanent according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

How much does a hair specialist consultation cost in Karachi?

Short answerThe fee depends on the doctor and the branch. Call or message the clinic on WhatsApp to confirm the current consultation fee before you visit. Treatment costs are set after the diagnosis, because the plan differs for every patient.

Can women see a hair specialist at your clinic?

Short answerYes. Hair loss in women has its own common causes, including iron deficiency, thyroid problems, hormonal changes and the months after childbirth. The doctor checks for these and chooses treatment that is suitable for women.

I live outside Karachi. Can I get an opinion before travelling?

Short answerYou can send clear scalp photos on WhatsApp for a first screening. The doctor will advise whether an in person examination is needed. A diagnosis and a procedure plan still need a physical assessment.
